Diabetes

Diabetes is a chronic condition caused by high blood sugar when the body doesn’t make enough insulin or use it properly. Left untreated, it can damage the heart, kidneys, eyes, and nerves. Types include Type 1 (autoimmune), Type 2 (insulin resistance), prediabetes, and gestational diabetes. Common symptoms are excessive thirst, frequent urination, fatigue, blurred vision, and slow-healing wounds. Diagnosis is made through blood tests such as fasting glucose, A1C, or OGTT. Treatment may involve insulin, oral medications, lifestyle changes, and monitoring. While genetic forms cannot be prevented, Type 2 risk can be reduced with healthy diet, exercise, weight control, and stress management.
